Behind the birth of the Smile brand lie the true stories of countless families.
Li Jiahong’s own parents and child are a vivid example. Her parents are retired and live in their hometown, Chongqing, while she works in another city, with little time to spend with them. What her parents look forward to most each day is a phone call from their daughter, just to hear her voice. Yet, conversations over the phone are always brief and rushed. Every time the call ends, she can feel that her parents still have so much left unsaid.
At the same time, Li Jiahong’s son, Xiaoyu, has also been left behind in their hometown as a “left-behind child.” After school, Xiaoyu stays home alone, watching TV, playing games, and doing homework. Without his parents around, he has become increasingly withdrawn, and his smiles have grown rare.
